The Club That George Built nominated for British Sports Journalism Award

The shortlist for this year’s SJA British Sports Journalism Awards has been announced and our documentary, The Club That George Built, has made the list. It’s been nominated in the Best Television Documentary category, alongside films about Sir Alex Ferguson and Sven-Goran Eriksson.

The awards recognise the creme de la creme of sports journalism – whether it be writing, photography or broadcast – and are widely regarded as the Oscars of the industry.

Our 70 minute film centres around the 23/24 season of Worthing FC and the owner George Dowell, who in 2014 was in a car accident that resulted in a broken neck and paralysed him from the chest down. George used the compensation he received from the accident to buy Worthing FC, and in 2017 at the age of 21, became the youngest club owner in the history of English football.

The documentary was commissioned by TNT Sports and aired on the channel in October 2024. You can still watch it on their streaming platform Discovery+ here: discoveryplus.com/gb/show/the-club-that-george-builtdiscoveryplus.com/gb/show/the-club-that-george-built

The winners will be announced during a ceremony in London on Monday 24th March. The full shortlist can be found here.
