Great Big Story nominated for a Webby Award

Great Big Story has been nominated in the Travel & Lifestyle video category at this year’s Webby Awards. The team’s short film, One Man’s Trash, is all about how you can buy a stranger’s lost luggage at a huge store in Alabama called Unclaimed Baggage.

The shop was set up in 1970 by the Owens family, and has remained a family owned and run business ever since. It even houses a museum for those priceless items that have never made their way back to their owners.

The Webbys are the leading international awards honouring excellence on the internet. Established in 1996 during the Web’s infancy, The Webbys is presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS)—a 3000+ member judging body. Nearly 13,000 entries were received from 70 countries around the world this year.

This is Great Big Story’s first award nomination since the channel was acquired by whynow Media in 2023. The short film, Hollywood's Horror Chef, also received a Webby Honoree in the awards, something that is granted to only the top 25% of all work entered in the 28th Annual Webby Awards.

Nominees are put to a public vote, and the winners will be announced on May 13th. You can watch the video and cast your vote here.

Congratulations to the whole team!
